Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort Recap

A budding poker pro drove a few hours north of his home town and took down an HPT title and over $130,000 in the wee hours Monday morning at Soaring EagleCasino & Resort in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. David Peters, a 21 year old former college student, continued an already very successful poker career by taking home his biggest tournament cash to date.

“I was a student at Bowling Green but quit college to pursue poker” said Peters. “My parents have been very supportive and I think I made the right choice.”

Peters plans to continue his education at some point but for the time being is pursuing his poker career, already earning some large cashes in both live events as well as on-line.

“I mostly play on-line but I’ve still managed to play about 20 live events and have done well,” said Peters who only turned the legal age of 21 about six months ago.

For the Heartland Poker Tour it was another successful event in a very busy tournament season with 301 players in the main event for the first time stop at Soaring Eagle Casino & Resort.

“We couldn’t be happier with the turn out for our first time here” said HPT founding partner Todd Anderson. “It’s a phenomenal property and we’re looking forward to coming back again in 2009.

The HPT event season marches on next month in Minnesota with a return trip to Grand Casino Mille Lacs. After that, it’s several events stacked in the months of October and November including events in Colorado, Detroit, New York, Iowa and the Chicago area.
